Want to play a game that is overly violent and fun at the same time, complete with gnashing demons and guts spilled all over? DOOM Eternal is my recommendation in satisfying your craving for demon guts.
Known for its violent graphics and fun-filled mayhem, DOOM Eternal is what I consider a survival first-person horror shooter that offers a rowdy good time. Many, including me, were caught surprised with how simple and fun the game is but DOOM Eternal is far from being a formulaic game than what is commonly shown in the trailer.

Spill Some Demon Guts
Doom Eternal is a fast-paced first-person shooter game published by Bethesda and is a sequel to Doom which was released back in 2016.
The game is the fifth installment in the franchise but still retains some of the aspects that many fans, including me, have liked in previous iterations. The story follows Doomguy who goes on a mission to end Hell on Earth.
As with the Doom games before it, expect gore, blood spilling, demon guts flying in the air. It is one of those games that are over-the-top but also presents one of the best gameplay and highly entertaining experiences.
Doom Eternal was released in 2020 with a single-player campaign. Downloadable content was released later that year called The Ancient Gods.
Downloading the Game
Doom Eternal is currently available to download for Windows PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Stadia. A Nintendo Switch version was also released in December of 2020 with plans of having the game on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X as well.

Becoming a Demon Hunter
As Doomguy, I always want to excel at slaying demons with style however, the game does have its level of difficulty that many players might want to adjust first.
It's not all doom and gloom for this game. There are still some aspects to Doom Eternal that every player should know about considering this is still a first-person shooter game.
One major aspect that not a lot of players know of is to keep moving during combat. There will be times in the game that I am swarmed and cornered by demons from all angles. This could easily mean the end for me if I just stand still and shoot my way out of that predicament.
The trick to surviving a lot of deadly blows from the enemy is to move during combat. Never stop moving whether you are reloading or shooting down an enemy. This way, you can easily reposition yourself if you are caught or trapped in a corner.
Expect to Get Hit
While I've suggested that you keep on moving to keep yourself from harm, it also does not mean that you are going to be invincible the entire game. It's just preposterous to think that you are not going to take damage when playing the game.
The earlier you understand that you will take damage and might even suffer a fatal blow early on means that you would learn how to manage your mobility in combat. This way, you also get to learn which blows you can take and which ones you need to avoid.
Go ahead and take some risks and get clobbered from time to time. If there's one thing you need to learn in this game, it's to know which enemy deals the most damage so you can dodge it and take some of the lesser damage.
Rev Up the Chainsaw
One of the best weapons in this game is also my favorite - the chainsaw. The chainsaw is a powerful melee weapon that new players should take advantage of. Not only does it provide a huge amount of damage that can easily kill most enemies, but it also drops ammo from enemies.
The only downside to using the chainsaw is that it is fueled by gas so I have to be careful with using it. While I may be able to pick up some charges, there is still some form of control over how you use the chainsaw.
Apart from that, feel free to hack and slash your way through hordes of demons and enjoy the very detailed graphic deaths on your screen.
Tease Your Brain
If you think that Doom Eternal is all about shooting down demons then you are mistaken. Doom Eternal utilizes both mental and physical aspects of each player by having complicated puzzles to solve along the way. Tease your brain sometimes and learn to solve different puzzles to survive.
The further you get into the game, the more complicated each puzzle gets so you might want to start practicing your critical thinking as well as puzzle-solving skills.
Gather Resources
You might be tempted to leave the game after you finish each level but I would rather recommend that you stay for a while and catch a few stragglers left behind.
You can get health or ammo from killing some minions along the way. Gather these spoils so you can have enough ammo and resources for the next level. You can also check those unexplored areas on the map and see if there are hellspawn lurking behind so you can effectively clear out the map and gather enough resources.
Another great way to gather armor shards is through belching. Flame belching engulfs the enemy in a fire and causes them to spew off armor shards which you can then collect later on.
I also recommend taking this time to look around for secret areas in the game and see if you can discover something great. I know it can be quite difficult to explore an area while you are being chased by ugly demons but once you are done with them, take the time to investigate and see what you can find.
Deal with Marauders
Marauders are some of the peskiest types of enemies that I have encountered in a long while. They are often very annoying due to how they move and attack. There's just no sense or pattern to how they attack which causes a lot of experienced players some difficulty.
The good thing about this is that there is always a weapon that can counter their seemingly random attacks. The shotgun offers a great area-of-effect as well as high damage that could make quick work of them.
I can take them down as fast as I can with the help of the shotgun and keep on moving while in combat to avoid fatal blows.
Level Up Your Weapons
Speaking of the shotgun, there are a lot of mods that you can do to upgrade your weapon and make them even more interesting.
Use your weapon points and upgrade each weapon that you have to make them hit harder. First, use Sticky Bombs as an upgrade to your shotgun as it will help deal more damage without having to sacrifice a lot of ammo.
Use Heat Blast for your Plasma rifle that will supercharge the weapon to cause even more fatal damage. Meanwhile, arming Micro Missiles to the Heavy Cannon makes the rocket launcher into a formidable game-changing weapon.
Choose Destroyer Blade for your Ballista, take it out for a spin, and thank me later.
Don't Forget the Runes
Just as mods upgrade your weapon's abilities and strengthen them to counter different enemy types, you also get to use runes to augment your powerful abilities. There are about nine runes that I have encountered in the game and only three can be equipped at a certain time.
This means that I have to choose wisely on what type of rune I want to use depending on my playstyle. I highly suggest getting Chrono Strike which brings the game to a slow-motion bullet-time effect that gives me enough time to take down some of the more annoying enemies in the game.
Seek and Destroy is also a good rune to take by helping you traverse through terrain more quickly. Lastly, Dazed and Confused is a great rune to pick up for sustainability.
Conclusion
Overall, Doom Eternal is one of those games that is meant to be played with friends but the single-player campaign is still filled with fun non-stop violent action and gameplay.
Those who are seeking a video game that fulfills your demon-slaying fantasy, or are looking for a few hours to kill (pun intended), should give Doom Eternal a try.
