New players seem to be trigger-happy in this game. They always want to cast their character's spells the moment they have the resources to do so. It could be that they want to end the game as fast as possible.
However, this should not be the case. The best way to end the game is by moving towards crippling your enemy by solving puzzles. Cast your skills as a finishing move or if you are placed in a compromised position.
I rarely advise new players to cast skills every time they are available. Another great piece of advice is to cast a powerful spell during the earlier stage to gain an advantage, but this rarely comes out as something worth doing. It is still much better to use skills only when needed.
